Single-sided and double-sided printed circuit boards are basic components of electronics, characterized by their simple structure and versatility.

APPLICATIONS

Single and double-sided PCBs: compact efficiency

Single and double-sided PCBs are at the heart of electronics, with each variant offering its own unique advantages and application areas.
While single-sided PCBs are a cost-effective solution for simple circuits, double-sided PCBs allow for greater circuit complexity and density, making them ideal for more demanding applications.
The choice between single and double-sided PCBs depends on the specific requirements of the design, functionality and budget.

Single-sided printed circuit board

This consists of a single carrier material, often FR4, with conductive copper on one side.
The simple design and low-cost production make single-sided PCBs ideal for applications that require a basic circuit.
The components are arranged on one side of the board, which simplifies the production process and further reduces costs.

Two-sided printed circuit board

In contrast, the double-sided PCB has copper layers on both sides of the carrier material.
These enable a higher complexity and density of circuits, as the electronic components can be arranged on both sides of the board.
The use of vias makes it possible to establish electrical connections between the two sides, which ensures efficient signal transmission.

Single-sided PCBs are used in basic electronics applications such as household appliances, lighting systems and electronic toys.
Their simple structure and low cost make them ideal for mass production.
Double-sided PCBs, on the other hand, are used in more complex devices, including audio amplifiers, power supplies, industrial controllers and cell phones.
Their ability to accommodate a higher number of components in a smaller space makes them the preferred choice for applications that require high performance and reliability.

FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about single- and double-sided PCBs

1. What’s the difference between single-sided and double-sided PCBs?

Single-sided PCBs have a copper layer on only one side of the board, making them simple and cost-effective. Double-sided PCBs feature copper traces on both sides, which allows for more complex circuit designs and higher component density.

2. Where are single- and double-sided PCBs typically used?

Single-sided boards are mainly used in straightforward, budget-sensitive applications such as power supplies, lighting systems, or household appliances.
Double-sided boards are preferred for industrial control units, automation systems, sensors, and other advanced electronic devices.

3. What technical specifications does BERATRONIC offer?

We manufacture single- and double-sided PCBs with the following parameters:
FR4 base material, board thicknesses from 0.4 mm to 5.0 mm, copper thickness from 18 µm to 210 µm, minimum track and spacing width of 0.0762 mm, and panel sizes up to 1510 × 400 mm.
Available surface finishes include ENIG, lead-free HAL, OSP, immersion tin, nickel/gold, and silver.
Drilling options: mechanical from 0.15 mm, laser from 0.075 mm.
